Simen Agdestein
Simen was the first chess player from Norway to become a grandmaster, when he was 18 years old in 1985. At his best, he was ranked number 16 in the world.
He also played for the national football team as a striker. Chess and football – a great combination!
Since 1988, Simen has been a trainer at the Chess Department of the Norwegian Elite Sports Gymnasium, with the current World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, his most famous student.
